Summer Savory (Satureja hortensis) is a little woody herb with an upright stature and great flavor. Reminiscent of thyme in its appearance, it’s an under-utilized herb in American kitchens. Its excellent piney flavor will enhance a roasted chicken, pot of beans, and many other hearty dishes. It is a key component of the popular Herbs de Provence spice mix. This variety is the annual type of savory which is often regarded as having a superior flavor compared to its perennial counterpart. As an All-America Selections (AAS) winner, it’s not only flavorful but also reliable and productive in the garden. Grow it for culinary use or simply as an attractive addition your garden. Or both!
