Salpiglossis, whose name means “painted tongue” in Greek, is an unusual and captivating flower native to Chile. Its trumpet-shaped blooms come in an extensive range of colors—violet purples, pinks, yellows, and even striking two-toned varieties–all which shimmer with a metallic, electric quality. With tall, multi-branched stems, it makes a great cut flower. When I put it in a vase, I like the simple look of a few stems on their own. Salpiglossis also makes a lovely cut flower, adding vibrant splashes of color to bouquets. Salpiglossis has a look that draws plenty of attention and offers something out of the ordinary.
