Did you know that orange wasn’t recognized as a distinct color until the 1500s, and yet this plant’s hue is so intensely orange, it practically defines the color! Iconic and emblematic of the American West, it’s a top choice for pollinator gardens and meadows–blooming early and easily drawing in loads of bees and butterflies. Watching the blooms unfurl is a simple pleasure of mine. Despite its large visual impact, the plant maintains a compact, low-growing form that later develops cute seed pods. Used as a pollinator-friendly staple or simply to brighten up the garden. Easy to grow and drought tolerant! Reseeds.
