The Aleppo pepper, also known as Halaby pepper, hails from northern Syria and is widely used throughout the Middle East and Turkey. It offers a moderate heat level on the Scoville scale, though some may find it milder. When dried and powdered, it delivers an extraordinary flavor that has gained popularity among chefs and food enthusiasts. Unfortunately, due to disruptions in cultivation caused by the civil war in Syria, the Aleppo pepper is now listed as an endangered variety in the Slow Food Ark of Taste. This is a productive plant with exceptional culinary qualities.
