This was our first year growing Tagetes lucida and we loved it! Known by many names, including Mexican tarragon and pericón, this marigold is native to Mexico and Central America, valued for its medicinal and culinary uses. Its edible leaves have a licorice-like flavor, making them a great tarragon substitute for seasoning fish, chicken, or salads. Beyond its uses in the kitchen, Tagetes lucida is a lovely addition to the garden, forming a compact shrub with dainty yellow flowers that attract pollinators. Heat-tolerant and perennial in zones 8 and above, we are happy to add it to our collection of herbs.
