Red Russian Kale is a farm and garden classic thanks to its rapid growth, tender sweet leaves, and beautiful purple veining. An easy grower, it’s very adaptable so you can sow it thickly for cutting baby leaves like salad mix or grow single plants every 9-12” for full size leaves and bunching. Best in spring and fall, it’s always sweeter when hit by frost–our kids called it “candy kale” once November hit. Much more tender than the lacinato or curly types of kale, which are a different species, this is our favorite kale for raw salads.
