With its soft, gray-green fuzzy leaves and dusky pinkish-lavender flowers, catnip is a very attractive perennial herb. A robust and drought-tolerant plant, it surpassed its expected height by twice as much on our rich farm soil! As far as cats go, this herb targets their “happy receptors” and causes them to act in a very relaxed and playful way, which is usually hilarious to watch and rare to see in a cat! According to the Humane Society, it’s completely safe and enjoyable for them. Beyond its feline appeal, it also serves as a pollinator favorite. Medicinally, catnip leaves have been traditionally used to promote relaxation and aid digestion, though studies are limited. Super easy to grow in a container as well.
