The China Aster is a beloved member of the expansive Asteraceae family, celebrated for its vibrant late-season blooms that add fresh beauty to the garden when new colors are most appreciated. This particular variety stands out for its hard-to-find peachy-pink hue, transitioning gracefully from pale yellow to a deeper pink as it matures. These dynamic flowers start out small and simply explode in size as they fully open.
Native to China and Korea, this annual (or tender perennial in mild climates) is a favorite among cut flower farmers and florists for its practicality. It produces long-lasting blooms on sturdy stems, making it an excellent choice as a cut. With proper care, the flowers offer a long vase life.
Growing China Asters can come with challenges. They can be prone to diseases and fungal issues so use row covers if needed and ensure good air circulation around the plants. Staking may also be required to support their growth.
